Long Island: A Novel by Colm Toibin. We started our club reading this Irish author’s most popular work, Brooklyn. His new novel (published 2024; 304 pp.) is the story of Eilis Lacey (the herioine of Brooklyn), 20 years later. It’s a story of secrecy, misunderstanding, and love. Set in the spring of 1976, Eilish is now in her forties with two teenage children. She’s married to Tony Fiorello, a plumber and one of four Italian-American brothers, all of whom live in neighboring houses on a cul-de-sac in Lindenhurst, Long Island, with their wives and children and Tony’s parents, a huge extended family that lives and works, eats and plays together.
